How counselling works

Counselling is a talking therapy that allows you as the client to express thoughts and feelings without judgement or criticism.

Past experiences often shape the person we are today, counselling can help to identify patterns in life and give us a better understanding of our behaviours and responses, enabling changes to be made where they are needed.

Counselling can work in the here and now or it can mean working on past events or experiences, everyone’s journey is individual to them.

As a counsellor, I will not offer you advice or tell you how you should feel or behave. Instead the safe therapeutic space provided, will enable us to explore what is going on for you, and why you are experiencing difficulties. I will walk alongside you and guide you on your journey of self-exploration and discovery. I am totally client led and will only work with what you bring to each session.

I encourage openness and honesty, this ensures you get the most out of each session.

Counselling can help with:

A counsellor client relationship will only be helpful if there is a connection, not every therapist will suit every individual. When choosing a therapist it is important that you as the client feels comfortable with your therapist.

I offer a free half hour meeting, either on the phone, via video link or face to face to give you the chance to meet me, ask any questions and decide if you feel we could work together. There will be no obligation at this meeting to book any further appointments, and you will not have to open up about anything at this meeting that you don’t feel ready to talk about.
